The Last Days

This is our last class period to work on our web pages! The semester is coming to a close and we have to get our files ready to send away.  I'm hoping to have all the web pages linked on the school's website soon.

Nine Lessons & Carols

At our school, we have a worship service in mid-December called "Nine Lessons & Carols". 1st through 6th grade participates in this service. Each grade sings a carol. Nine people are chosen out of the six grades to read the lessons. You can only be a lesson reader once. This year, Bertina & I get to sing solos in the 6th grade carol. Our carol is "Do You Hear What I Hear". I'm sooooooooooooooo excited!!!!!!:D:D:D

Guest Star

Today, our Web Design class was able to get special instruction from a Software Engineer. What great fun that was to look at the big eyes of 6th graders as he wrote line after line of code in seconds flat and then explained what each item was doing. I did my best to translate into 6th Grade-ese :)

Next week we'll have one more chance to question our speaker about specifics... customize your site a little bit!

Ancient Greece!!! And Rome........

In history, we are learning about Ancient Greece & Rome! Here are some facts about the two:

Ancient Greece:
1) Back then, in the Olympics, winners were awarded a crown of olive leaves. Today, obviously, winners receive medals:)

2) In the Parthenon, in the Acropolis in Athens, there was a 40 foot statue of the Greek goddess, Athena. Her skin was made of ivory & her clothes were made of gold.

3) Athens was named after the Greek goddess, Athena. Athena was the goddess of wisdom.


Ancient Rome:
1) The Roman Republic was divided into 3 different ranks. The highest rank were the consuls. Then came the patricians & then the plebeians.

2) Julius Ceasar renamed the month Quintilis and made it July in honor of his name.

3) Julius Cesear was murdered by 60 people from the government including his dear friend, Brutus.

In my opinion, I think Greece is more interesting than Rome:)

So in music, we are doing a project where we get partnered up with someone.....(I got Tux:)).......and we looked through a book about composers and found some information on the composer we chose. Tux and I chose Jean Sibelius. He wrote the Finland national anthem:) We will present our projects by doing an interview:) Our class will present on Monday!! I can't wait:)

On halloween i like to scare the teenagers when they steal the big bowls of candy. Their faces are so funnywhen they drop the candy and run. i also love to scare nathan like i will this year. I will go to his house......

Ok, this is the weirdest thing I have learned today!! In 2010, Belleville, Illinois became the latest city to ban trick-or-treating for kids over 12!!!!! Teens can face fines from $100 to $1,000 for going door to door!!! According to officials, teen Halloween trick-or-treaters are given just a warning.

I think teens and adults should be able to go trick-or-treating if they want to!!!

A long time ago, people belived in spirits. They would dress up in costumes to scare away the spirits.

Halloween is fun because when you go trick or treating you get a lot of candy at the end you eat all the candy you want. sometimes you get you get to try new candy and that is always fun. this year I might try to scare some people. every once in a while my mom makes us a costume. does any body have a good place to get a lot of candy?

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. the reason being, i get lots of candy and i can scare little kids without getting in trouble! the way i pull this off is, i go trick-or-treating until about 7:30. then, i hide in our bushes dressed as Jason or something and jump out and scare them. i don't do it to very little kids but 6 and up will be scarred for life!

Then he had to wonder around in the darkness for ever. So he was searching for a place to sleep for ever and he put a burning coal inside of a turnip and poked holes in the turnip. Thats how we got the Jack O Lanterns!

Omg!!!!!! Fall Break was a ton of fun!!!!!!!:D
Well, on Wednesday, we got out of school at noon so I got to go to the library
and go out to eat with my dad!!!!
On Thursday, I went to the mall with my mom and we just walked around and went into stores and looked at stuff; we didn't get anything though:(
On Friday, I stayed at home and made a sweet with my mom and my grandma!!!!!!!:)
On Saturday, I went with Hilda to the mall to watch "Dolphin Tale". Then we went to Barnes and Noble and hung out there for some time. Finally, we went
to Red Robin for dinner.
On Sunday, I went to dance and singing class. Then I painted my nails HOT PINK!!!!! OMG!!!

Bad Lunch

This year there have been many complaints about the "hot lunch" program. The Parent Organization is making us eat less food for more money and it doesnt have a desert. they used to give us seconds but now they dont. they think it is healthy but, what is heathy about starving us. comment to give us your ideas about this predicament.

I absolutly despise the hot lunch program this year. There are many problems. One of them is they cost more. Another is they give us smaller portions and no seconds. Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful fall break. We're on the down-hill slide now. With Thanksgiving break right around the corner, we're going to be trying to wrap up this course.  Last week you learned about marquee's.  This week lets look at HTML tags and backgrounds.

What makes a good website

I think what makes a good website is a simple layout so everybody can use it easily. Good pics and lots of infomation helps too. They also need to update it every once in a while 2 or so years. Its great to have a good updater so then you know its getting updated good.

Is it snazzy or SOOOO last year???

What does a snazzy and cool website have????
When I click on a link to a website, I expect to see good information!!! A variety of color, pictures, and cool fonts snazz it up!!!!! It needs to be updated 2-3 a week for it to be my hotspot!!!!!!

What does a website need to be SOOOOOOO LAST YEAR?????
When I click on a link, and I come to a website with bad information, dull colors, no pictures whatsoever, it's not recently updated and terrrible fonts, it's totally last year and NOT my paradise!!!!!

What makes a good website?
In my opinion, the most important thing that makes a website good is videos. Any video is good but videos by Tobuscus are the best. If you want to make a decent website, you must fill it with videos. I also like websites with games on them such as www.armorgames.com or www.maxgames.com so you should fill your website with games as well. At the end of this post I will put links to my favorite websites for games and videos. You could get some ideas from them.

I think a good website should have a good topic, some fun colors, readable font, and nothing boring.If you are making a website for kids, you should not use innopropriate things. But if you are making one for adults, you shouldn't use childish things.You also need to constantly update your page, or people will get bored.Also, you should make your website simple so people with different computer skills can use it.

When I see a website..... I would like to see lots of color and effort torwards it.

What makes a good website???

In my opinion, a good website is simple and not crazy.
In games, I think that it should be simple. All you need is some information and a login page.
If there is to much information on one page, you get lost in all the information. It needs to be colorful and simple. Also, if you let people post, it shouldn't be like over lapping each video. It needs to have a simple design that is carried on through out the website. Thats what I think a good website needs!

teachers???

Teachers.....................????? Whats the one word u think of when u here teachers?? Is it lots of homework or is it a mean teacher or even a nice and sweet teacher!! Even though u might have a mean teacher for all I know, she or he could be a really good educator. Even though what you see on the outside its not always true. At our school we don't just learn out of a textbook we also do hand on activities!!!:) We don't have mean teachers at our school, we have the sweetest teachers you could ever ever ever have!!! Our teachers teach us so much more than a average teacher teaches his or her students in a school day. My teachers inspire me academically and with my outside school activities. My teachers also inspire me to be a better person and how to serve others before you serve yourself. My teachers are a big part of my heart inside of me. If any of my teachers are reading this I want to thank you so much for always being amazing teachers and always having my back. Love all ya!! Thanks again!!:)

Welcome 6th Grade!

We've made it to our 6th grade Web Design class!!!

 

This semester we're going to learn some of the secrets to what it takes to have a web page. Part of our class assignment will be to keep a blog about what we're doing in class, what we're learning, what we find interesting and not so interesting and even if we think this might be a career choice for any of us!

At the end of this semester:

• You will be self-directed learners who will be able to find information online to assist in continuing your learning outside of the classroom setting.
• You will be efficient communicators who can explain concepts to others.
• You will be constructive thinkers and able to attack problems with organization, logic, and computer skills you've developed in a systematic fashion.
• and You will be a responsible citizen who accepts the consequences of your actions and who demonstrates your understanding of your role in the learning process.
